Located on State Highway 1, the Mount Victoria tunnel connects Hataitai to the heart of the capital city of Wellington, New Zealand. The tunnel was built in 15 months and greatly reduced the travel time between the Eastern Suburbs and the central business district of Wellington. With around 45,000 vehicles passing through the Mount Victoria tunnel daily, this was a prime candidate for updated lighting. This project was the first major tunnel in New Zealand to be fully illuminated with LED technology. This important milestone demonstrated New Zealand's commitment to safety and energy savings as there are many motorists, cyclists and pedestrians using this tunnel.
